Low-Carbon Assembly Assistant

For Autodesk Research
Role: Research Engineer - Frontend Design and Development

2025

The Low-Carbon Assembly Assistant is an experimental tool developed within Autodesk Forma to help designers generate facade assemblies that align with sustainability and performance goals. Users can specify high-level intent, e.g. “reduce carbon” or “minimize cost”, alongside detailed requirements like “R-30 insulation.” The system then leverages AI to propose novel assemblies that meet these criteria.

Through the user interface, designers can also explore alternative materials for individual components, enabling iteration and informed decision making. The prototype represents assemblies using a knowledge graph-based data model, allowing for ease of interaction with AI agents and supporting complex reasoning about materials, performance, and environmental impact.

The prototype was debuted at Autodesk University 2025 in Nashville, TN.
